Job Description SummaryAs the Sr. Data Scientist, you will work as part of a world class team addressing the needs of the GE Digital Services Renewable business. In this role, you will be responsible for making devices more intelligent and advancing technology to the world we live in. You will develop AI and machine learning approaches to solve operational use cases with time-series, unstructured text, and relational data from wind turbines. You will play a key role in transforming large complex data sets into actionable insights that impact the bottom-line of the organization, thereby increasing revenue, reducing costs, and lowering the risk of our customers.

We are looking for people who are intellectually adaptive, inquisitive, and capable of working independently and collaborating with other researchers to implement and customize algorithms with the goal of making them deployable and maintainable in a modern model CI/CD environment. Our environment requires strong R/Python coding skills.

Job Description

The Sr Data Scientist will work in teams addressing statistical, machine learning, and data understanding problems in a commercial technology environment. In this role, you will contribute to the development and deployment of modern machine learning and statistical methods for finding structure in large data sets. You will be part of a data science / cross-disciplinary team on commercially facing development projects, typically involving large, complex data sets. These teams typically include statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, engineers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units. Potential application areas include remote monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics across infrastructure and industrial sectors.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work in technical teams to develop, deploy, and apply predictive and prescriptive analytics.

  • Develop analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.

  • Work alongside software developers and software engineers to translate algorithms into commercially viable products and services.

  • Perform exploratory and targeted data analyses using descriptive statistics and other methods.

  • Work with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing, and data analytics.

  • Develop algorithms using sensor and turbine performance data to find patterns and engineering models and approximations governing the condition of components in a wind turbine.

  • Share and discuss findings with team members.

Required Characteristics

  • Master’s Degree in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with at least 2 years of analytics development for industrial applications (Renewable Energy is a plus) in a commercial setting.

  • Or Bachelor’s Degree in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with at least 4 years of analytics development for industrial applications (Renewable Energy is a plus) in a commercial setting.

  • Expertise in designing, developing, and applying analytics, descriptive statistics, feature extraction, anomaly detection, Machine Learning (shallow and deep architectures), and prognostic with industrial datasets.

  • Expertise in data visualization and storytelling for an audience of stakeholders.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated skill in the use of one or more analytic software tools or languages (e.g., R, Python).

  • Demonstrated skill at data cleansing, data quality assessment, and using analytics for data assessment.

  • Demonstrated awareness of data management methods, i.e., data governance, data integration and data warehousing.

  • Demonstrated awareness of real time analytics development and deployment.

  • Demonstrated awareness of industry and technology trends in one or more sectors where GE operates.

  • Demonstrated awareness of customer and stakeholder management and business metrics.

  • Demonstrated skill at function in a team setting.

  • Demonstrated awareness of critical thinking and problem -solving methods.

  • Demonstrated awareness of presentation and influencing skills.

  • Demonstrated awareness of how to succeed in ambiguous circumstances.
