A new exciting role has come upwith an international law firm. Our client is looking for aDeputy
General Counselwho will be based in their UAE office. For thisrole, you will be part of and work within the Office of the General
Counsel (OGC) team for UKIME. Your responsibilities will includebut not limited to:
Work collaboratively withother business support services within the firm, including HR,finance, marketing and business acceptance teams.
Offer counsel on a variety of legal issues includingassisting with responding to day-to-day queries received in thecompany’s inbox. Design, implement,maintain and monitore effective compliance programmes for the UKIMEregion. Work with the Business Acceptance teamto lead improvements and changes to our standard terms of businessto improve commercial and regulatory protection for the firm inresponse to risks across all parts of the UKME Region.
Manage the effective compliance of the whole ME offices,reporting directly to the Managing Partners of those offices anddesigning with the GC effective compliance programmes for thoseoffices. Respond to regulatory audits andassisting the GC with regulatory and internal investigationsarising across the ME. Promote a positivecompliance and risk culture across all offices in theME. Assess, design and implement appropriategovernance structures across ME. Identifyregulatory risks to the business, reporting those to the GC andformulating an effective response to those risks, includingoperating the firm’s risk register and department risklog.
Monitor the ME regulatory environment andplanning and implementing responses to change when needed (both interms of internal compliance precedent updates and firm wide policyrevisions). Provide complex legal advice tothe firm, its partners and business support departments, on behalfof the GC. Design, implement and manageprojects directly or through the officers and analysts of theGlobal Risk Department together with the GC.
Develop and set up annual compliance and risk strategyfor the firm together with the GC. Provideregulatory compliance advice to the business including advice onsanctions, ABC, SRA, DPA and FSMA advice and design, implement andmanage related compliance programmes.
Represent the firm before and build and maintain closeworking relationships with its regulators and within the legal riskprofession. Manage various projects anddeadlines. Research unique legal issuesimpacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes,judicial decisions, and codes. Developpractical solutions to complex legal questions
