Construction Manager About the Role Careem Grocery is on a mission to reinvent the way people shop for grocery, pharmacy and retail products. As an exciting new vertical within Careem (a startup within a startup), we’re in the early stages of building our product and have plenty of interesting and fundamental challenges to solve in order to achieve our ambitious growth goals in this burgeoning space.

As a Construction Manager, you’ll help us get our newly acquired commercial properties ready for prime time as we scale our dark store network across the Middle East. Real estate drives our business and this role is key to our success. This is a unique role with the opportunity to create genuine impact for the lives of everyday people in our region.

We’re looking for someone who knows store fit-out inside and out and can project manage the scale up of our new network of dark stores to ensure locations are opened on time. Our ideal candidate is someone highly organised, strategically oriented, and with a keen sense of ownership and a get-it-done mentality. What you’ll do  Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion Review the project in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations Coordinate construction workers and subcontractors Meet contractual conditions of performance Review work progress on a daily basis Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones Negotiate terms of agreements, draft contracts and obtain permits and licenses Analyze, manage and mitigate risks Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques  What you’ll need Successful candidates will have a passionate commitment to improving the lives of people, an insane focus on excellence and customer centricity, and a strong alignment with our core values and purpose.

At least 5 years of experience with relevant exposure to construction management. Time spent in tech, consulting, strategy, or a start-up is a plus.  Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods Expert knowledge of building products, construction processes and details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards Experience in multisite rollouts, managing external consultants, and experience in retail is a plus

Ability toplan and see the “big picture” with excellent time and project management skills Strong stakeholder management and communication skills are a must, including the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally Balance attention to detail with swift execution – we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well Self-starter – the ability to self-serve, investigate and get the information you require will make you much more effective in this role Grittiness.

You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and address something hands-on, you persevere when others fall away

Willingness totravel – you may support other markets in our region  Urdu or Arabic proficiency is a plus
